I think growing up in the UK, especially if you live in a small industrial town like I do, it’s easy to forget the great stuff about our country. I’m not talking about the political stuff, the healthcare, the emergency services – but the people. The history. The quirks you see in each area of the country.

I’ve grown up in the North West, and I particularly love that proud identity Northeners carry with them – it’s all banter of course, but we are some of the friendliest people you’ll meet – we make the best brews and we’re not afraid to chat to strangers on trains!

Plus can we take a moment to talk about how beautiful this country is? It’s easy to forget when it’s grey and drizzly, but even on those dull days we’ve got beautiful amazing historic towns and villages and rolling countryside, alongside thriving modern cities.

Well as a Londoner I’m taking a moment to laud at how much I crave you Northerners’ friendliness and straightforwardness. It’s one of the reasons why I’m planning to move up North in a few years. Down here in London we’re all grumpy, closed-off individuals who are at war with each other on public transport every working day. I hate it but at times there are moments when I’m going past attractions, riding on boats and cable bars and eating some delicious, multicultural food from food stands that I think I take London and the UK too much for granted.
