Easter holidays six years ago marked our first tri Easter holidays six years ago marked our first trip to the Lake District and my favourite photo from the trip. This is a 24 year old me, standing in William Wordsworth's garden, looking down on Grasmere and the Victorian terraced cottages. I fell in love with the Lake District there and was where I was actually first inspired to create a UK travel blog. It started with a different name, and was a bit broader, but soon after BritVoyage was formed. I actually wrote one of my #literarywalk features on my blog about this location, because believe it or not, you can see two of Wordsworth's homes in neighbouring villages, with a scenic walking route between the two. This year, I'm not doing anything quite as exciting during the Easter holidays, primarily because our garden is being redone, but we'll try to get out and about nonetheless. We had our baby with us on our last visit and quickly realised how much we needed to adjust our plans to suit her. She hated being carried in the backpack! The wooden beams on the ceiling are said to be from a Tudor ship, complete with creepy, angry, lion face sculptures. 2. The back wall of the shop is said to be part of the original Winchester Castle, built in 1067. Hidden Essex - Old Leigh, Leigh on Sea An ancient Hidden Essex - Old Leigh, Leigh on Sea An ancient fishing village, Old Leigh is one of the most beautiful parts of South Essex. It's over 1000 years old, packed with historic buildings, and still boasts a popular seafood industry. Pubs like Ye Olde Smack and The Crooked Billet are particularly popular, with some higher end restaurants like The Boatyard and The Peterboat drawing in punters left, right, and centre. We love a visit to Osborne's Cafe which sells some of the freshest seafood you'll find in all of Essex. Who said the seaside was only for the summer? In the summer months Old Leigh is absolutely rammed with people, but in the earlier months of the year, it's a great spot for a quiet Sunday morning walk. Just a five minute walk from Tower Hill is a fabul Just a five minute walk from Tower Hill is a fabulous museum dedicated to the gory mystery of Jack the Ripper. It's not easy to create a museum for something with few facts, but they do a great job in displaying the life and suffering of women in poverty, the Ripper's targets. For around £10 per person, you can explore all five levels of the museum.
